From Thursday May 30 until Thurday June 5, Citadelic Festival's 17th edition emerges with another scope of adventurous music and a focus on improvisation and jazz, open for the young and the old. Back at the magnificent Citadelpark in Ghent the offerings are eclectic, the atmosphere low key.
Classical, avant-garde, indie, contemporary, or experimental, the program is so versatile that everyone should find something to their liking.

Originality, the underbelly of society, developing one's own voice and embarking on a musical quest is what has made jazz a global art form.
No less than 7 days on a musical rollercoaster, that's what we envision, with more than 25 concerts. In addition to fascinating music, you can continuously enjoy a summer snack and a fresh drink, offered by El Negocito.

You get the opportunity to hear internation musicians such as Evan Parker, Mat Maneri, Motoko Hondo, Pierre Favre, Christian Wallumrød, Steve Noble, John Edwards, Harmen Fraanje, Samuel Blaser at work;
but we're also eagerly anticipating Gregoire Tirtiaux's daily musical escapades, Josse De Pauw's poetry, the punk attitude of London's finest musicians, Argentian young saxophone Camila Nebbia's innovative approach to jazz and experimental music, a revisited band that hasn't performed in 20 years led by Erwin Vann with Belgian favorites Dré Pallemaerts and Aka Moon's Michel Hatzigeorgiou, the vibrant vibraphone of Compro Oro, the energy of Dishwasher_, the wonderful harmonica sounds of Steven de Bruyn, and the artistic harvest from a residency at Ensemble, amongst others Meskerem Mees and Ornella Noulet... and so much more


On June 6, we welcome the last concert of our artist in residence at SMAK with a quartet featuring acclaimed guitarist Fred Frith; a wonderful end of a week of adventure.
